Metro Commuter Network is the first comprehensive web-based community of suburban rail commuters. MCN turns commuters’ commutes into communities by connecting them with real-time information about their personal commutes, to each other, and to the towns and local businesses along their train lines.
Here’s how:
- MCN connects members and their commutes - MCN members see personalized real-time information about their specific commutes, as well as timely local information, every time they log on.
- MCN connects members to each other - Members can connect for professional and personal reasons through MCN’s social networking applications.
- MCN connects members to neighbors - Members and neighbors in the towns along the train lines can post and answer ads on our targeted bulletin boards on a wide range of topics specific to commuters’ and suburban residents’ needs and interests.
- MCN connects members to towns and local businesses - Each town along every train line is showcased on its own page, chocked full of local information and also listings of local businesses notated by which are within walking distance of the train station.
And, there is more! For the first time, MCN gives commuters a unified voice – a voice that can be heard by local businesses and fellow commuters alike. Local businesses and others can now offers specials just for commuters – and you’ll hear about them first … at MCN.
MCN is the brainchild of founder Darcy Flanders, a 24-year Metro-North commuter. Darcy has taken her commuting experience and created MCN to help others get the benefit in their commute.
About the Founder
Darcy Flanders is a 24-year Metro-North Harlem line rider. Owner of the Manhattan-based Baseline Design and mom to an active eight-year-old daughter, Darcy has spent four hours daily commuting between her northern Westchester home and midtown Manhattan office. Struggling for ways to get personal and professional “must dos” met during her long commute, she connected with her fellow commuters. The results were great, Darcy:
- Met her two biggest clients for her design firm through people she befriended on her train ride.
- Refinanced her home with the help of a mortgage broker she met on the 8:52.
- Received a referral for a root canal specialist from the man sitting across from her on her morning commute, who then arranged for her to have an emergency appointment the next day.
- Found assistance from a fellow commuter who helped her secure a NYC hospital bed for her terminally ill mother, when she was told there were none.
And last but certainly not least, Darcy met her now two best friends on her commute. These fellow commuters and now best friends have seen her through the good, the bad, and the ugly. They also share a common bond that many of her other friends don’t share with her – the challenges of juggling working, families, and grueling commutes.
Darcy's life has been significantly enhanced by the network of commuters she has come to know both personally and professionally. She created MCN so you can have similar experiences that have made her life richer, better and easier.
She cordially invites you to Get on Board!
